青山学院大学総合研究所では、今年、ユニットプロジェクトの活動として2つの混合研究法セミナー（講演およびワークショップ）を開催します。 混合研究法は、単一の調査において量的・質的研究アプローチを統合する方法論です。

世界的に著名な混合研究法の専門家であるJ.W.クレスウェル博士を中心に、ゲストスピーカーをお迎えしてセミナーを提供します。11月のセミナー（2019年11月9日・10日）は保健医療研究者向けとなっております。11月のイベントに関する詳細は下記をご覧ください。

この機会に、多くの皆さまに混合研究法に触れていただき、今後の研究に活かしていただければと考えます。なお、使用言語は、日本語と英語で、講演には同時通訳がつきます。

This year, Aoyama Gakuin University Research Institute will offer, as unit project activities, two seminars (plenary presentations and workshops) on mixed methods research (MMR). MMR is a research methodology that integrates both quantitative and qualitative approaches in a single study.

It is our honor to have the globally well-known MMR expert, Dr. J. W. Creswell, as the host of these events. Dr. Creswell, along with our guest speakers, will offer seminars. The November event (November 9 – 10, 2019) is for health researchers. See below for the details of the event.

第2回目は2019年11月9日（土）・10日（日）に保健医療研究者を対象に、講演会及びワークショップの講師として、J. W. Creswell（クレスウェル）博士とTheresa S. Betancourt（ベタンコート）博士を海外からお招きします。

A seminar (plenary presentations and workshops) for Health researchers on mixed methods research (MMR) will be held at Aoyama Gakuin University on November 9‐10,2019. Experts in MMR, John W. Creswell, and Theresa S. Betancourt, will speak at this seminar.

混合研究法の分野は、高度な研究を特徴づける新たな手続きによって急速に発展している。方法論の専門家として、学術雑誌に掲載するあなたの混合型研究や助成金申請書が有利なものになるよう、近年出現したいくつかの特徴をこれらに含めることを検討してほしい。ここでは次の特徴に着目する－（1）プロジェクトにおける量的・質的側面の統合から生まれる洞察を正面から取り上げる、（2）混合研究法デザインを特定し、これを表す図を描く、（3）混合研究法を用いる重要性を主張する、（4）量的・質的結果をジョイントディスプレイに並置し、表現する方法を創り出す（5）実施マトリックスの使用を検討する、（6）混合研究法データ分析において公表されたステップを使用する、 そして（7）データテーブルを含める。これらの特徴を示す例を文献から紹介し、それらをどのように作り、論文や助成金申請書のどの部分に配置するべきかについて、情報を提供する。

The field of mixed methods research is rapidly advancing with new procedures that mark a sophisticated study. As a methodologist, to best position your mixed methods study journal article or grant submission, you might consider the inclusion of several features that have emerged in recent years. These features will be highlighted: 1) speak directly to the insight to emerge from integration in quantitative and qualitative strands of your project; 2) Identify a mixed methods design and portray a figure that explains the design used; 3) argue for the importance of mixed methods; 4) create ways of portraying the quantitative and qualitative results side-by-side in joint displays 5) consider using an implementation matrix; 6) use published steps in mixed methods data analysis; and 7) include a data table. For these features, I will give examples from the literature, information about how to construct the features, and where to place them within a publication or grant submission.

Sugira Muryangoは、幼児期の発達を促進し暴力を減少させる、ルワンダの国家貧困削減戦略とリンクした科学的根拠に基づく家庭訪問介入である。クラスター無作為化試験による量的結果を理解するために説明的順次デザインを用いることで、極度の貧困状態の中で幼い子ども（6~36ヶ月）を育てる家庭にとって、本介入が、ケアギバーの行動、共同的意思決定、家族機能、そして子どもの成長に多大な利益をもたらす、期待が持てる実行可能性の高い介入であることを明らかにした。演者は、Sugira Muryango実施の障壁と促進要因の特定、文脈がもたらす現実の検討、介入による変化の理解を目的に用いられた革新的な混合研究法アプローチに焦点を当てながら、介入実施の中での家族とプロバイダーの経験について紹介する。

Sugira Muryango is an evidence-based family home visiting intervention to promote early childhood development and reduce violence linked to the National Poverty Reduction Strategy in Rwanda. Using an explanatory sequential mixed methods design to understand the quantitative findings of a cluster randomized trial, Sugira Muryango was found to be an acceptable and feasible intervention for families living in extreme poverty who are raising young children (ages 6-36 months), yielding significant benefits for caregiver behavior, shared decision making, family functioning and child outcomes. Theresa Betancourt will present family and provider experiences in implementing Sugira Muryango, highlighting the innovative use of a mixed methods approach to identify barriers and facilitators to implementation, consider contextual realities, and understand intervention change.

厳密な混合型研究を実施する際のステップには、研究に関連する７つの重要トピックが含まれる。これらのトピックは、混合研究法が研究にとって最善の方法論かを見極める、哲学的・概念的枠組みを特定/開示する、量的・質的データ源を特定する、混合型研究の手続き（またはデザイン）を明確にする、混合型データ分析の手順を詳述する、どのように混合型分析結果を提示するかを特定する、そして妥当性への課題を具体的に述べる、である。ワークショップには、ミシガン大学混合研究法研究所で開発および検証された最新の混合研究法が含まれる。参加にあたり、ワークショップの中で取り組むために自身のプロジェクトを持参することを推奨する。ワークショップでは、実践的なアクティビティをいくつか経験していただく。

The steps in conducting a rigorous mixed methods study consists of including seven key topics as they relate to your study. These topics are: determine if mixed methods is the best methodology to use; identify/disclose your philosophical stance and your conceptual framework; identify quantitative and qualitative data sources; specify your mixed methods procedures (or design); detail the steps in your mixed methods data analysis; identify how you will present your mixed methods results; and be specific about addressing validity challenges. The workshop will include the latest advances in mixed methods developed and tested at the University of Michigan’s Mixed Methods Program. Participants are encouraged to bring projects to work on during the workshop and a few hands-on activities will be provided.

本ワークショップでは、混合研究法の概念化とデザインを起点に、研究の実施、評価および結果の報告に至るまで、混合型研究における概念的戦略と実践的手法について取り上げる。事例研究と分野の実例を通して、講師は世界中で逆境に直面する子どもたちのための介入に混合研究法を適用する際のベストプラクティスを提示する。参加者は混合研究法デザイン、概念モデル、ケースナラティブ、そしてジョイントディスプレイについて検討する。

This workshop will explore conceptual strategies and practical techniques in mixed methods research from conceptualization and design through implementation, evaluation and presentation of findings. Through case studies and illustrative examples from the field, Theresa Betancourt will present best practices in applying mixed methods research to interventions for children facing global adversity. Participants will explore mixed-methods designs, conceptual models, case narratives and joint displays.

ジョン・W・クレスウェル博士は、ミシガン大学医学部家庭医療学科教授ならびにミシガン大学混合研究法プログラムの共同主任である。混合研究法、質的研究法、研究デザイン全般に関する多数の論文と28冊の著書を執筆している。ネブラスカ大学リンカーン校においては、クリフトン寄付講座教授, 混合研究法研究所所長を務めた。混合研究法の学術誌Journal of Mixed Methods Research（SAGE出版）の創刊には、共同編集長として携わった。また、ミシガン大学家庭医療学科の兼任教授、ミシガン州アナーバーの退役軍人局保健管理研究センターにおけるコンサルタントとしても貢献した。
フルブライト上級研究員として2008年に南アフリカ、2012年にタイに赴いた。2011年に、アメリカ国立衛生研究所（NIH）の健康科学分野における混合研究法の最優良事例に関する作業部会の共同部会長を務めた。 同年、ハーバード公衆衛生大学院の客員教授を務め、南アフリカのプレトリア大学の名誉博士号を授与された。2014年に、国際混合研究法学会（MMIRA）の初代会長を務めた。2015年に、ミシガン混合研究法プログラムの共同運営のため、ミシガン大学家庭医療学科の教授に就任した。2017年の「APA論文作成マニュアル」では、質的研究及び混合研究の執筆基準に関する共著者となっている。クレスウエル氏の「Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design」は、卓越した学術教科書の1冊として、全米学術教科書・学術者協会から2018年度のMcGuffey Longevity Awardを受賞している。

John W. Creswell, PhD, is a professor of family medicine and co-director of the Michigan Mixed Methods Program at the University of Michigan. He has authored numerous articles and 28 books on mixed methods research, qualitative research, and research design. While at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he held the Clifton Endowed Professor Chair, served as Director of the Mixed Methods Research Office, founded SAGE’s Journal of Mixed Methods Research, and was an adjunct professor of family medicine at the University of Michigan and a consultant to the Veterans Administration health services research center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was a Senior Fulbright Scholar to South Africa in 2008 and to Thailand in 2012. In 2011, he co-led a National Institute of Health working group on the “best practices of mixed methods research in the health sciences,” served as a visiting professor at Harvard’s School of Public Health, and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. In 2014, he was the founding President of the Mixed Methods International Research Association. In 2015, he joined the staff of Family Medicine at the University of Michigan to Co-Direct the Michigan Mixed Methods Program. In 2017, he co-authored the American Psychological Association “standards” on qualitative and mixed methods research. In 2018 his book on “Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design” won the Textbook and Academic Author’s 2018 McGuffey Longevity Award.

テリーサ・S・ベタンコート博士は、ボストンカレッジ社会福祉学部グローバル・ヘルスプラクティスの創立Salem教授であり、子どもと逆境に関する研究所（Research Program on Children and Adversity: RPCA）の所長でもある。博士はシエラレオネの戦争被害者である若者に関する世代間縦断研究の主任研究員でもある。ベタンコート博士は、HIVに感染した子どもとその家族に対する関係強化介入プログラムの開発と効果検証を実施している。そして、現在は、ルワンダにおける貧困の縮小/社会保障の取り組みに統合可能な、充実した親子関係の構築と暴力防止を目指す、幼児期発達訪問介入プログラムの調査を主導している。米国では、再定住する難民の子どもと青少年が抱える情緒的・行動的問題に対する家族予防の共同開発と評価を、コミュニティに基礎を置く参加型リサーチによって実施している。このプロジェクトは、難民コミュニティで働く医療従事者による予防サービスに連結可能な、難民のための難民による子育てプログラムの共同開発および評価研究の一環である。

Theresa S. Betancourt is the inaugural Salem Professor in Global Practice at the Boston College School of Social Work and Director of the Research Program on Children and Adversity (RPCA). She is Principal Investigator of an intergenerational, longitudinal study of war-affected youth in Sierra Leone (LSWAY). Dr. Betancourt has also developed and evaluated the impact of a Family Strengthening Intervention for HIV-affected children and families and is leading the investigation of a home-visiting early childhood development (ECD) intervention to promote enriched parent-child relationships and prevent violence that can be integrated within poverty reduction/social protection initiatives in Rwanda. In the US, she is engaged in community-based participatory research on family-based prevention of emotional and behavioral problems in refugee children and adolescents resettled in the U.S. through the collaborative development and evaluation of parenting programs led by refugees for refugees that can be linked to prevention services involving refugee community health workers.
